Grandfathering of dental specialists applies to local dentists with the prescribed qualifications and experience.

Extension of 'Grandfathering'/Direct Entry Exercise

The 'Grandfathering'/Direct Entry of Dental Specialists which ended on 31 December 2008 will be extended for another 2 years for the specialties of Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Paediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Periodontics; and 3 years for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Applications for 'Grandfathering'/Direct Entry of Dentists will now close on 31 December 2010 and 31 December 2011 respectively.

'Grandfathering'/Direct Entry for Dental Public Health

'Grandfathering' / Direct Entry exercise for Dental Public Health commences on 1 July 2009 and ends on 30 June 2012. The extension of the grandfathering ended on 28 February 2025.

Specialty-specific conditions

Dental Public Health

1. Those with a postgraduate qualification in Dental Public Health and have been awarded Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS).

2. Those who have not been awarded FAMS but have undergone Basic-Specialist Training (BST) or equivalent in Dental Public Health in a recognised institution and their BST and relevant post-basic experience adds up to at least 4 years.

3. Those who have undergone a full-time 2 years Masters programme in Dental Public Health conferred by a recognised institution of tertiary education and have at least 2 years of relevant post-basic experience

4. Those who have undergone a full-time 1 year Masters programme in Dental Public Health conferred by a recognised institution of tertiary education and have at least 3 years of relevant post-basic experience

Those who do not fall under the above 4 categories would be assessed on a case-by-case basis. The DSAC will review all applications and recommend to the DSAB on who can be 'Grandfathered' into the dental specialists register.
